A team from Bagalagunte police station sustained injuries while trying to arrest a notorious miscreant who allegedly jumped from the first floor of an under-construction building in Soladevanahalli on Thursday to evade arrest.
The accused, identified as Nagaraj, sustained serious injuries in the fall and was taken to hospital and is recovering.
In his complaint, Sub-Inspector Pradeep Kumar C. said he had recently taken charge as PSI at Bagalagunte police station and was investigating a case registered under the SC/ST Act and various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
As part of the investigation, the police were on the lookout for the main accused Nagaraj, who was absconding. Acting on credible information that he was hiding in an under-construction house at Soladevanahalli, PSI Pradeep Kumar along with ASI Srinivas and other police personnel visited the place around 1.30 pm on 21 May.
After confirming the presence of the accused on the terrace of the building, the police team approached him and identified himself. Nagaraj, however, allegedly pushed the policemen, obstructed them from their duty and tried to flee from the spot.
While trying to escape, the accused jumped from the first floor of the building and sustained severe injuries. PSI Srinivas also sustained injuries during the scuffle, police said.
The accused was subsequently arrested and taken to hospital for treatment. Medical reports confirmed that he suffered compression injuries as a result of the fall. The police are waiting for his recovery to arrest him.
A fresh case has been registered against Nagaraja at Soladevanahalli police station for assaulting and obstructing police officers in the discharge of official duties.
