Food delivery platform Swiggy on Tuesday launched the tenth edition of its annual report ‘How India Swiggy’d’. This in-depth recap provides insight into the country’s continued fascination with diverse cuisines and highlights the most significant ordering trends seen in 2025.
Catering is gaining popularity
Highlighting that guests flocked to their favorite spots to soak up the atmosphere and create lasting memories, Swiggy said that dining has gained popularity and emerging markets like Jaipur, Chandigarh, Kochi, Dehradun, Vadodara and Mangalore have been listed among the top 20 cities using Swiggy Dineout.
Over Swiggy Dineout saw 23.7 million guests in 2025, the majority of which were in Bengaluru (4.5 million), followed by Delhi (3.9 million) and Hyderabad (3.7 million), according to the company.
“The single highest billing was done by two customers in Bengaluru and two customers in Mumbai of Rs 3,000 each. In Pune, a customer made the single highest payment of Rs 173,885,” Swiggy said.
The company also claimed that through Swiggy Dineout, “India has saved total ₹774 crore in 2025. Even emerging markets like Jaipur (Rs 20 crore), Chandigarh (Rs 19 crore) and Ahmedabad (Rs 16.7 crore) have enjoyed huge savings.”
The single highest savings ₹150,800 was enjoyed by a Swiggy user in Bengaluru, he added.
Leading food selection
In a statement, Swiggy said that biryani has successfully held its title as India’s favorite food for decades. With a staggering 93 million orders placed in 2025 alone – equivalent to roughly 194 orders every minute or 3.25 servings every second – biryani remains the undisputed champion of the delivery world.
In the snack category, burgers once again came out on top; chicken burgers were the top choice with 6.3 million orders, while veggie burgers followed with 4.2 million orders.
There were also interesting winners in the dessert category. White chocolate cake unexpectedly took the number one spot with 6.9 million orders. The traditional chocolate cake (5.4 million) and the classic Indian sweet Gulab Jamun (4.5 million) rounded out the top three most ordered treats.
When it comes to international tastes, Mexican cuisine topped the charts with 16 million orders. Tibetan food was second with more than 12 million orders, while Korean food continued to grow in popularity with 4.7 million orders.
The company also saw a significant shift in timing when it found that dinner orders were almost 32% more frequent than lunch orders. One particularly dedicated foodie in Mumbai set a national record by placing 3,196 orders in 2025, which averages out to almost nine food deliveries a day.
