Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the resounding victory of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar is a sign that a people-governance-development approach has been established as the new bedrock of politics in the country.
He said at the party headquarters that the results ensured that “jungle raj” (lawlessness) would never return to Bihar. The BJP along with the people of West Bengal will now uproot the “Jungle Paradise” in that state too, he said.

Addressing jubilant party workers, Mr. Modi said, “To every mother, youth, farmer and poor family in Bihar, my pledge is your trust. Your hope is my determination and your aspirations are my motivation. Together we will build a prosperous and developed Bihar.”
“BJP’s strength is its dedicated workers. Today’s victory has also energized workers in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Assam and West Bengal (where polls are due early next year)…Ganga flows from Bihar to West Bengal. Bihar has also paved the way for BJP’s victory in West Bengal. raj’,” he said.
‘No room for complacency’
Thanking the people of Bihar for the biggest mandate for the NDA after 2010, he said, “In Bihar, some people tried to enforce the appeasement-driven MY formula (referring to certain communities), but this victory gave a new and constructive MY formula – Mahila aur youth (women and youth). He congratulated the entire NDA team and its top brass and emphasized that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had provided exceptional leadership. Mr. Modi also emphasized “great coordination” between workers, including at booth level.
“These elections have strengthened people’s confidence in the Election Commission. The increasing voter turnout of the poor and marginalized in recent years is a major achievement of the Election Commission,” Mr Modi said, recalling the days when elections ended at 3pm in Maoist-hit areas. He said the Bihar elections also showed that voters, especially the youth, were serious about cleaning up the electoral roll. “Therefore, all political parties should now activate their booth-level workers to ensure that electoral rolls are clean across the country,” Mr. Modi said, referring to the special intensive revision process.
The Prime Minister said the results reflected people’s determination not to support those on bail. “India is now voting for real social justice where appeasement has no place. It has been replaced by politics based on contentment – a new benchmark – people want rapid development; they want a developed India,” he said.
“People who have ruled for decades have painted a false picture of Bihar, denigrated its people and disrespected its glorious past, traditions and culture. How will those who mock Chhath Puja by calling it a drama respect Bihar’s heritage?” he asked. “Congress and RJD leaders have still not apologized to ‘Chhathi Maiya’. People of Bihar will never forget it,” he said, adding that the government was working to get Chhath Puja listed as a UNESCO heritage site.
Mr Modi attributed the party’s recent electoral victories – after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections – in Haryana, Maharashtra and Delhi to the immense confidence reposed in the NDA by all regions, age groups, castes and communities. “If people continue to vote for us even after 20 years, it shows that a people-governance-development approach has been established as the new foundation of Indian politics,” he said.
“Another split in Cong. likely’
Targeting the Congress, he said that in the last three Lok Sabha elections, the party could not even reach triple digits. “After the 2024 elections, the Congress could not cross 100 even in the Assembly elections held in six states. Today, our tally in Bihar alone is greater than the tally won by the Congress in all the six states combined,” Mr. Modi said.
Accusing the Congress of “politics of negativity, wasting Parliament’s time, attacking all institutions including the Election Commission, raising doubts about electronic voting machines, alleged vote-stealing, dividing people in the name of caste and religion and promoting anti-India agendas”, the Prime Minister said it had now become the “Muslim-League-Maoist Congress”.
“There is a new faction emerging within the Congress that is troubled by all the negativity. I believe another split in the Congress is on the way. Now even Congress allies are realizing that it is dragging everyone down,” Mr Modi said, adding that the RJD was stunned by Friday’s results.
After NDA’s victory, Union Home Minister Amit Shah went to X to thank the people of Bihar. “During the last 11 years, Modi ji has worked wholeheartedly for Bihar and Nitish ji has brought the state out of the darkness of the ‘Jungle Raj’… every single vote cast by the people of Bihar reflects their faith in the policies of the Modi government against infiltrators who threaten India’s security and resources, as well as their supporters,” he said.
“This is a victory for everyone who believes in a ‘developed Bihar’… Congratulations to Shri @narendramodi ji, Shri @NitishKumar ji and all NDA leaders and workers. I salute all @bjp4Bihar karyakartas – from booth level to state level – whose tireless efforts made this result possible.
