Pakistan cricket has been hit by fresh controversy after the team’s disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup. An unnamed member of Pakistan’s World Cup squad has been fined for allegedly misbehaving with a female hotel employee during the team’s stay in Sri Lanka, according to a report by Telecom Asia Sport.
The alleged incident is believed to have taken place in Kandy shortly before Pakistan’s Super Eight final match against Sri Lanka during the tournament.
According to the report, the episode took place at the Golden Crown Hotel, where the Pakistani contingent was staying. Sources told Telecom Asia Sport that the Pakistan World Cup team player misbehaved with a cleaning lady at the hotel.
The situation reportedly escalated when an employee raised the alarm and called for help. Other hotel staff intervened and the matter was subsequently reported to Pakistan team manager Naveed Cheema.
The senior officials of the Golden Crown Hotel allegedly wanted to take decisive action against the player. However, the issue was resolved internally after Cheema apologized to the hotel management on behalf of the cricketer and levied a fine for the misconduct.
THE PLAYER MAY face ANOTHER ACTION
While the player’s identity has not been revealed, the matter may not be completely closed. According to the report, the individual could face further scrutiny once the unit returns home.
The report suggested that the player could be summoned before the Pakistan Cricket Board’s disciplinary committee, which can decide whether further punishment is required.
The controversy arose soon after Pakistan’s disappointing campaign in the tournament. The side failed to qualify for the semi-finals after missing out on a clean sheet despite beating Sri Lanka by five runs in their last Super Eight match.
Pakistan’s overall performance in the tournament drew criticism as the team struggled to maintain consistency during the crucial Super Eight phase. The latest off-field incident added to the scrutiny surrounding the team following its early exit from the competition.
