Ma Baby, elected Secretary General of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday, was Minister of Culture and Education in the government led by Achuthanandan in 2006–2011, when the school curriculum was revised.
The lesson in the Social Sciences textbook for class VII was called Mathamilllatha Jeevan (Jeevan, without religion), which was interpreted as against religion and God. The controversy forced a change in the title to “Viswasa Swathantryam” (Freedom of Faith) and the international names of the boy and his parents listed in the lesson was revised into ordinary names such as “boy” and “parents”. There was nothing against religion or God in the textbook, Mr. Baby said, trying to alleviate the experiments that ran high.
Pacifist, Mr. Baby is known to be a lover of art, music and books. He was helpful for Bose Krishnamachari and Riyas to whom to try to move to Kochi and introduce the Biennial Kochi Muziris.
He was born in Kollam 5th April 1954 as the son of PM Alexander and Lilly Alexander, Mr. Baby became an atheist. He developed an early interest in politics, while a student at the High School Socialist Social Democrats.
This initial spark grew as he visited SN College in Kollam, where he actively participated in student policy during his pre -establishment years and later as a student of BA, political science. His involvement in the Students and Youth Movement played a key role in shaping his political career when he became a key member of organizations, such as the Federation of Keral Students and the Indian Democratic Federation of Youth (Dyfi). His student days were vital to form him as a leader and give him a deeper understanding of political issues.
On the vote
He was an all-Indidal president of both the Student Federation of India (SFI) and Dyfi. Later he became a member of the CPI Central Committee (M). While he was a member of Rajya Sabha between 1986 and 1998, Kundar was represented in the Keral Assembly between 2006 and 2016.
In 2012 he was elected to the policy office. In the elections of Lok Sabha in 2014, he attacked the constituency of the Colllam election district, but lost to the NK Premuchandran of the Revolutionary Socialist Party. In addition to his political roles, Mr. Baby is also an author who wrote books on various subjects, including Noam Chomsky, youth movement and education.
Hope abounds
Mr. Baby is married to Betty Louis, a former member of the SFI state committees, who later worked with television channels. Their son Ashok Nelson is a guitarist.
At a time when CPI (m) weakened significantly in its one -off fortress, it is expected that years of experience in Delhi’s work will receive a good place to revive their party’s wealth.
