A nursing home resident steps into a new life

The Government Aftercare Institute for Adolescent Girls in Injavila, Kollam witnessed a heartwarming moment when Shalini, who grew up in the institution’s protective care, embarked on a new journey.

On Wednesday morning (September 15, 2026), she tied the knot with Sudheesh S., a private sector employee based at Soubhagya in Vettuvila, Anchalummood. The wedding ceremony was held at the Niraavil Panamoodu Devi Temple Auditorium in the presence of Women and Child Development Minister Bindhu Krishna, with District Collector Anie Jula Thomas as the chief patron of the event. Born in SS Samithi and completed her education through Eravipuram Karunyatheeram, Shalini spent the last three years in the loving care of the Aftercare Home before entering this new chapter.

Wedding gift

To celebrate the occasion, the Child Protection Committee contributed a sewing machine as a wedding gift to support Shalini’s future and recognized her tailoring skill. Stepping out of institutional life into the warmth of family love, Shalini’s wedding was a moment of deep joy for many.

The staff of the Aftercare Home were filled with immense happiness as they sent their beloved daughter off to a new life.
