In a new study with the Center for the Study of Wild Animals (CWS) based on Bengalur, it explained how it is selectively and strategically selectively and strategically manifested by the endangered and endemic lion.
A study entitled “Highs and Minimum Arborreal Life: Strategy of using space and movement strategy of macaques from Lion-Ocasy (Macaca Silenus) in Western Ghats of India” performed in the Silent Valley National Park, emphasizing how differences in treatment and human presence can form animal behavior and protected areas with a similar forest structure.
Less than 4,000
Makak with tails is located only in western ghats with less than 4,000 individuals remaining and the Silent Valley National Park is a fortress to maintain it.
In a study led by Sikha Hariharan, a doctoral member of CWS, he examined the selection of spatial ecology and movement stations of two macaque soldiers with a lion macaque living in areas with a different level of human presence in the park borders.
CWS scientists watched two units of macaques, one in the border or bumper zone and the other in the main zone of the national park.
They combined GPS monitoring, evaluating the vertical use of space, and advanced modeling of movement to study how the macques used the space around them, both high in the canopy and through the forest, one in the border or buffer zone and the other in the core zone.
The CWS said the study unit living in the bumper of the protected area maintained less domestic reach and spent almost all the time (94.2%) in forest canopies at the middle level.
“Their avoidance of the lowest forest layers indicates a strategic reaction to environmental factors and increased risks from people, predators or other disturbances. On the other hand, internal units showed greater use of forest floor with large parties descending to the ground and occupied a much greater home range.”
Ecological flexibility
He added that while both units spent most of their time in the middle of canopy, earthly behavior in the core area, the internal forest unit emphasizes the level of ecological flexibility, which was previously attributed to this species, which has long been considered strictly arboreal. Makakaks also showed consistent formulas in using space near key sources, such as trees and thick canopy patches.
Mrs. Hariharan said that the animal movement reflects how it perceives its environment and balances food, safety and survival, and is usually the first visible indicator of any response to changes around them.
Understanding the risk
“While land or soil use was attributed only to the populations of macaque in degraded habitats, our studies have found that even in the absence of failures, macques normally examine and use the forest.
