
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a fresh spell of thunderstorms over northwest India, including Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, from Monday, May 11 onwards. Heavy rainfall has also been predicted for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal for the coming week.
The meteorological agency has also predicted a heat wave over West Rajasthan and Gujarat till May 15 and over West Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan on May 12-13.
- Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha through the week we will see isolated to scattered light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 50 km/h.
- The Andaman and Nicobar Islandstogether with Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will experience widespread light to moderate rainfall, thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 50 kmph till May 15.
- Isolated heavy rainfall is expected for Assam and Meghalaya from May 11 to 15, Arunachal Pradesh from May 12 to 15 and across Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura between May 13 and 15.
Heat wave warning for Rajasthan
The IMD has warned of a strong possibility of heat waves in some parts of western Rajasthan in the next five to six days. According to the Jaipur Met Dept, both minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in most parts of the state in the coming days.
The meteorological agency said that under the influence of a fresh western disturbance, isolated areas in Bikaner division, Shekhawati region and northern parts of Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions may witness light rain and thundershowers on May 11-12, while the rest of the state is expected to remain mostly dry.
West Madhya Pradesh is also likely to experience heat wave on 12-13. May and Gujarat by May 14.
Delhi weather forecast
Clear skies are expected in Delhi on Sunday with maximum temperatures slightly cooler than normal for this time of the year (1.5°C to 3°C below normal). The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi on May 10 are likely to be in the range of 36-38 degrees Celsius and 25-27 degrees Celsius.
The Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning for Monday and Tuesday, May 11-12, warning of possible rain and thunderstorms.
“A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalaya region from Sunday. Very light to light rainfall accompanied by thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph, even gusting up to 50 kmph is expected in Delhi on Monday and Tuesday,” an IMD official said.
