In an effort to improve sewerage infrastructure in the fast-growing corridors of Nanakramguda, Financial District and Gachibowli, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board CEO K. Ashok Reddy has directed officials to prepare a mini sewerage plan tailored to current and future needs.
The directive on Friday came after detailed inspections of these areas at the behest of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He asked officials to submit data on existing sewage generation and infrastructure, including current sewer lines and treatment capacity.
During the inspection, Mr. Reddy emphasized the need to develop sewer extensions and mains capable of handling the future growth based on the planned expansion up to 2047. He also emphasized on gathering and studying information on existing canals, stormwater channels and mains so that effective networks can be designed to prevent sewage from entering the stormwater canals and polluting the Musi and surrounding reservoirs.
He called for coordinated work of operational and STP departments with a focus on assessing the catchment capacity of the Nanakramguda STP and exploring the feasibility of increasing the treatment capacity or building new facilities as required.
Proposals are to be submitted for a main line to transfer sewage from Gachibowli and adjoining areas to Kokapet WWTP with plans to divert flows below Kokapet to Chitrapuri and Ibrahim Cheruvu WWTPs.
Officials have also called for the development of a digital application to track sewage treatment data at all STPs.
