A mega kitchen in Telangana’s Suryapet will feed 60,000 students daily within 100 days

A massive centralized community kitchen capable of preparing and delivering nutritious meals to nearly 60,000 students every day is being developed at Syedmujavarpet in Munagala mandal of Suryapet district, with efforts underway to operationalize the facility within the next 100 days.

Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has contributed ₹9.6 crore to the project, which is being implemented with the support of the Hari Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation (HKMCF).

The kitchen, which is planned as an ultra-modern facility, will serve around 1,029 government schools and junior colleges.

The scale and coverage of the project make it a unique initiative in the field of student nutrition. A high-volume food preparation kitchen will integrate cooking, quality control, packaging and shipping with a carefully planned distribution network. Hygiene, food safety, nutritional value and timely delivery will form the core of its operations.

Irrigation, Food and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy is closely monitoring the project and coordinating with SCCL, HKMCF, district administrations and concerned departments.

Suryapet District Collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar said efforts are on to make the scheme operational within 100 days: “The project is unique in its scale. As it is a construction work, the immediate focus is on completing the structure and putting in place the necessary infrastructure.”

The reach of the project will extend beyond Suryapet district. Nalgonda District Collector B. Chandrasekhar said 131 government educational institutions in Nakrekal, Sali Gouraram, Kethepally and Vemulapally mandals would be served by Syedmujavarpet kitchens. These institutions have a total of 7,972 students. He said the centralized system will help maintain uniform standards of hygiene, nutrition, safety and quality of food. Detailed route planning and inter-departmental coordination would be done to ensure reliable daily distribution to each institution, he added.

Sri Satya Doura Chandra Dasa, President of HKMCF and Regional President of Akshaya Patra Foundation, said that the organization will do its best to reach out to rural students in distributing nutritious food that will enable them to do well in their studies.

Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy thanked SCCL for the contribution of ₹ 9.6 crore under the Corporate Social Responsibility Programme. He said the initiative demonstrated how public sector organizations can create lasting community assets and directly improve children’s health and participation in education.
