Chottanikkara police have arrested a group of 20 people for allegedly assaulting a 62-year-old man and his wife and damaging their property following a Christmas carol dispute.
Thankachan CA of Chirappattu, Nagappadi, Kanayannur and his wife were allegedly attacked by a gang after he demanded a receipt for the money he had paid for singing carols at his home.
The alleged incident happened on Tuesday (December 23, 2025) around 9.30pm. According to the first information report, the accused broke into the complainant’s house and tortured his family members before unleashing violence. The complainant allegedly lost two teeth in the attack by the first accused. The second accused allegedly hit Mr Thankachan on the head with a drum stick.
The accused also allegedly destroyed the flower pots and vandalized the lamps at the gate, causing a loss of ₹10,000 to the complainant.
The defendants were charged with criminal trespass, voluntary grievous bodily harm and obscene behavior in public places.
