A 42 -year -old man of Indian origin died days after the Australian police officer allegedly knelt on his neck during an arrest attempt, said the media report on Sunday (June 15, 2025).
Gaurav Kunti of Modbury North in Adelaide died on Thursday (12 June 2025) surrounded by his family after being hospitalized for “non -renewable” brain injury, 7News reported Australia.
Police tried to arrest Kundi at Payneham Road in Royston Park and claimed to have witnessed a “quarrel” between him and his wife.
The video footage showed the incident that Kunti was forced by the police, while he and his wife Amritpal Kaur protested loudly. “I didn’t do anything wrong,” Kunti shouted, while Mrs. Kaur was filming the incident and shouted that the police were acting unfairly.
Kunti was rushed to the hospital after his condition had decreased and “did not respond” during the arrest attempt.
The police said Kunti was forcibly resisting the arrest and was under the influence of alcohol. They said the couple reportedly argued, and the passing patrol reportedly thought of the incident with home violence. But Mrs. Kaur said that her husband was simply drunk and loud, not violent.
Meanwhile, the southern Australian police commissioner Grant Stevens told ABC Radio Adelaide that the incident would explore the internal investigation section in addition to the probe detective.
The investigation would review the policy, procedures and procedures of the Southern Australian police, including training in relation to the response to incidents.
The South Australian police said no one was shot and no police taser was deployed.
In 2020, the media compared the arrest with the case of George Floyd in the US. Floyd was murdered by a policeman in Minneapolis Derek Chauvin, who pushed his knee and weight against the 46 -year -old black American neck.
