Police Bandepalya detained a thirty -year -old private school driver who suspected he was an illegal Bangladesh immigrant and has currently placed it in the retention center of foreigners, Nelamangal, and waited for deportation in Bangladesh.
However, his family members argued that he came from West Bengal and filed a complaint against the State Commission for Human Rights in Karnataka (KSHRC), claiming unlawful detention and accusing the police of bribes.
The detained, identified as a refine Biswas, comes from DhananjoPur, West Bengal, the family claimed. He has lived in the city for the last 10 years, along with his wife and child, in rented accommodation and works as a private school driver.
His wife, who has now filed a complaint with KSHRC, claimed that she not only created his voter ID and the Aadhaar card, but also a certificate from the local police in Dhananjoypur in West Bengal and confirmed that Rafikul Biswas was a resident. She claimed that the police demanded a bribe of 10,000 GBP for the medical and transport costs of Mr. Biswas, which she managed to arrange and pay. However, she said the police rejected all the documents she created as false.
In her petition to KSHRC, she referred to the commission to take immediate knowledge of this matter, ordered a fair, independent investigation into illegal retention and blackmail, and ordered the immediate release of the victim.
The police said that the person was detained on the basis of the Internal Security Division (ISD). Officials stated that family members can attack the same with documents they have before the Regional Registration Office of Foreigners (FRO).
The city activist, R. Kaleemullah, who works with the family of the detainee, said the police focused on the later goals on migrating workers from West Bengal and called them “illegal immigrants from Bangladesh”. “In some cases, these migrant workers have not only voter IDs, Aadhar, passports, and even certificates from the police of their hometown, which is not considered. Such obvious harassment must stop,” he said.
