
A 62-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained when a fishing boat capsized off Puthuvype early Saturday (March 7, 2026). The deceased was identified as Ranchan, a native of Ambalapuzha in Alappuzha.
Ranjan was the ‘srank’ (skipper) of a crew of six on board the ship.
The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. when the ship St. Xavier, who had gone fishing, capsized in the sea. Though six men were washed ashore and taken to a nearby hospital by residents, Ranjan could not be saved, according to the Fort Kochi Coastal Police. Efforts were being made to recover the ship which had sunk in the sea.
