‘A lot of ups and downs in four months’: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi eyes new start in Zimbabwe
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (BCCI Photo) NEW DELHI: Just a few months ago, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi walked out of Harare Sports Club as the hero of India’s U-19 World Cup triumph. The 15-year-old smashed a sensational 175 off 80 balls in the final against England to help India clinch the title by 100 runs.Now Sooryavanshi is back in the same place but this time in the senior team of India.India will take on Zimbabwe in the three-match T20I series starting on July 23. All three matches will be played at the Harare Sports Club, where the youngster hopes to keep the memories fresh.Speaking to BCCI.tv, Sooryavanshi said that coming back to Harare brings back special memories.“Harare is a very memorable ground for me. We played the Under-19 World Cup 4 months ago and we won it. It’s everyone’s dream to represent India. It’s a very special moment. And on this good ground where we made history 4 months ago, we were able to come back and play a different one. Enjoy (Harare is a very memorable ground for me. Playing and winning against India four months ago is very special. in the same place where we made history here, it feels amazing.”
Sooryavanshi tries to fight back
Sooryavanshi’s first outing in senior India colors did not go as planned. The young batsman scored 14, 13 and 15 in three T20Is against England as India lost the five-match series 0-4. In two of those innings, he fell to Jofr Archer’s short-ball.Despite the difficult tour, the youngster said he remains positive and is focused on moving forward.“4 months, as you said, there will be a lot of ups and downs in 4 months. But cricket is a part of life, life will go on like this. But we will follow the process and give hundred percent to the team. (As you mentioned, the last four months had a lot of ups and downs. But that is part of cricket and life. We will continue the same process and give our hundred percent)”After his success in Harare, Sooryavanshi believes his familiarity with the conditions will help him during the Zimbabwe series.“I already have a good idea of the pitches and conditions here from the past. I will try to use this experience in the matches and perform well. I played two matches on this pitch and both went very well.”“Jo praxi mein karte aa rahe hain, usko back karunga. Jo mera game hai, usko back karunga aur team ke liye jo bhi post de sakta hoon game mein, woh dene ki try karunga (I will support everything I did in practice. I will support my game and try to contribute as much as possible for the team).”India head into the Zimbabwe series after a tough run, losing the T20I series 0-2 in Ireland and 0-4 in England under new captain Shreyas Iyer. The team also lost the ODI series 1-2 to England under Shubman Gill.
