Alcaraz’s victory was of historical significance. The 22-year-old became the youngest player to complete a career Grand Slam after lifting the Australian Open trophy for the first time. The Spaniard reached a milestone when he overcame his great rival Djokovic in the final to seal his seventh Grand Slam crown. Facing the 10-time Australian Open champion, Alcaraz bounced back from a slow start to win the match 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 in three hours and two minutes to put his name firmly in the record books. It was also his first appearance in the Melbourne final since his debut at the Australian Open. Alcaraz is now the sixth man of the Open Era to complete a career grand slam. Only four players have done it in the 21st century, with Djokovic the most recent in 2016, Rafael Nadal in 2010 and Roger Federer in 2009. At just 22, Alcaraz has already secured his place among the sport’s elite.
