The Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) held a review meeting on ‘Operation Swarna’, its ambitious project to remove encroachments and free the Swarnamukhi River from land grabbers.
At a meeting of Irrigation, Revenue and Survey department officials here on Wednesday, TUDA chairman C. Divakar Reddy suggested that a joint survey should be conducted to demarcate the river from Thondawad in Chandragiri mandal to Srikalahasti temple.
Mr. Reddy wanted the river boundary to be demarcated along the buffer zone to ensure adequate space in case of floods and also keeping in view the future requirements.
Deputy Director Land Survey Arun Kumar presented a preliminary survey done using Google Maps while TUDA Secretary NV Sreekanth Babu emphasized the need to rejuvenate the river for posterity.
Tirupati Finance Division Officer A. Ramamohan proposed the creation of a HYDRA-like body in Hyderabad and sought data from TUDA regarding unauthorized plans and constructions across the Swarnamukhi River.
Irrigation officials Venkateswara Prasad, Siva Reddy, surveyors and Tahsildars of Tirupati Rural, Chandragiri, Renigunta, Yerpedu and Srikalahasti mandals attended the meeting.
