A human skull recovered from a garbage dump in Kozhikode

On Sunday (September 20), a human skull was found amid a pile of garbage on a narrow lane near the Kozhikode railway station, prompting the city police to launch an investigation.

The skull was found along the lane leading from Platform No. 4 of the station towards Valayanagadi area. A passenger who noticed it while passing through the lane in the morning alerted the police.

The site is on vacant land owned by private individuals and is said to be used for dumping waste. Police suspect the skull may have been pushed out of the pile and ended up on the side of the road.

The area was checked by a team of the city police and the canine unit. A search was also carried out with the help of sanitation workers of the Kozhikode Corporation to see if more human remains were present. However, police sources said none was found.

According to a preliminary assessment, it is believed to be the skull of a person who died one to two years ago. Police said a forensic and DNA examination would be carried out to determine the identity of the deceased and whether the remains were male or female. A case has also been registered.
