A heat wave warning has been issued on the south coast of AP

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati and AP State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) have issued an alert for the state as many plain areas in the state, especially those on the south coast of AP, are likely to experience heat from May 19 to 24.
The IMD, in a report on Monday, May 18, has issued yellow (to be updated) and orange (be prepared) alerts for districts in the south coast of AP and a few in the northern region. Accordingly, hot and humid conditions are likely in Eluru, West Godavari, NTR District, Krishna, Palnadu, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, SPSR Nellore districts on May 19. East Godavari and Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema, apart from the above mentioned areas, will experience hot and humid conditions on May 20.
Orange alerts have been issued for the districts of Kakinada, Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Krishna, Guntur, Palnadu, Bapatla, Prakasam and Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore may witness hot and humid conditions on three days on 21st, 22nd and 23rd May, Suriithara Alla, Visuriithara Alla Anakapalli, Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam district.
APSDMA Executive Director Prakhar Jain has advised people to take proper precautions as temperatures in heat wave prone areas may remain between 45°C and 47°C. Especially on Wednesday and Thursday, there may be ‘very high’ temperatures in the mentioned districts.
A heat wave in a flat area is declared when the maximum temperature at the station is above 40 °C and its deviation from the normal temperature is between 4.5 °C and 6.4 °C. The second criterion is when the actual temperature recorded at the station exceeds 45°C.
Although the heat is probably bearable, caution is advised for the elderly, pregnant women and children. When going out between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., it is recommended to take preventive measures
Meanwhile, Rayalaseema is likely to be spared from extreme temperatures as maximum temperatures in the region are likely to be below 44°C.
According to the APSDMA, the highest day temperature of 44.3°C was recorded at Kommipadu in Nellore district on Monday, followed by Kadapa at 42.9°C.
