A five-member gang allegedly robbed a 28-year-old man of his mobile phone outside Gate No. 4 at the Palace Ground on Ballari Road in the wee hours of Friday.
The victim, Rajesh Kumar Behara, a resident of Kudlu Gate, had gone to Tumakuru with his friend on a two-wheeler and was returning home late at night.
According to police, the vehicle was stopped near the Palace Ground around 2.30am due to a flat tyre. While they were waiting for a transport to tow the two-wheeler, the accused approached Beher in the autorikshaw and asked him to help transfer the money online and that the amount would be refunded to them in cash.
Behera agreed to help because the accused said it was for an emergency. As he was transferring the amount from the mobile phone, one of the accused grabbed the phone worth ₹10,000, pushed it away and fled the scene in an autorickshaw.
The Sadashivanagar police have launched a manhunt for the accused.
