Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya lashed out at his team after their loss against Punjab Kings on Thursday, April 16. Pandya cut a frustrated figure in the post-match interview and had nothing positive to say about the team.
Hardik said he had nothing to say about his side and that he had to go back to the drawing board to find out what went wrong. Mumbai Indians batted poorly, bowled poorly and fielded poorly on Thursday, losing to Punjab by 7 wickets.
Despite Quinton de Kock’s century, Mumbai scored only 195 runs and eventually surrendered the game in just 16.3 overs. Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh batted with verve at the Wankhede Stadium to beat Mumbai at their home ground on Thursday.
“To be very honest, I have nothing to say at the moment. We have to go back to the drawing board and find out what we are missing. Are they individuals? Is it as a group? Is it planned? We will sit down soon and figure it out and then see what we can do next,” Hardik Pandya said in a post-match interview.
“…They just beat us. They batted, bowled and also bowled better than us and that cost us the game,” he added. Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians battle for IPL 2026. (Photo by AFP)

It was Punjab Kings fourth win this season from five matches. The only match they have not won this season is against Kolkata Knight Riders where the match at Eden Gardens was washed away by rain.
Mumbai, on the other hand, are languishing at the second-to-last position in the Indian Premier League table. When asked what change the team needed, Pandya honestly said he didn’t know. The skipper said he was torn between calling hard or letting the combination continue in the hope that their fortunes would change in the tournament.
“I mean we really need to see if we need to take some bold calls or hopefully turn it around with the same group. There are some tough questions to answer and yes, we need to take ownership,” the MI captain concluded.
Mumbai have played five matches this season and only won against Kolkata Knight Riders in their first match of the season. Barring the final thriller against LSG, all of Mumbai’s losses were one-sided.
