
On Friday (June 6, 2025), Delhi’s court liberated HC Gupta’s former secretary and other officials of the Ministry of Coal on alleged inconsistencies in the assignment of the Mahuagarhi block in Jharkhand.
Special judge Sanjay Bansal of Rouse Avenue Court, however, condemned M/S bright Infrastructure Capital PVT. Ltd. (Jicpl) and its director Manoj Kumar Jayaswal for charging the cheating and criminal conspiracy.
The case investigated by the Central Investigation Office (CBI) claimed that the company and its director had “distorted and hidden facts” in their request to gain “disproportionate benefits” in the process of assignment.
The CBI stated in its fee that 18 witnesses had been explored during the proceedings and the evidence submitted proved the offense “without reasonable doubts”.
The court planned the arguments of conviction on July 8.

The CBI registered this case after a preliminary investigation initiated on the basis of a reference from the Central Ages Commission. The investigation of the coal block allocations was carried out under the close supervision of the Supreme Court.
