A fire broke out in a paper packaging unit at Shivamogga

A fire broke out at a paper mill in the New Mandli industrial area on Wednesday (July 15) evening, causing extensive damage.

It started around 6:30pm and spread within minutes. Tons of paper rolls stored in the factory suddenly caught fire and the flames engulfed the entire factory premises within minutes.

Paper rolls, packaging material and other property worth lakhs of rupees were completely gutted.

Thick smoke enveloped the area around the factory and caused panic among residents. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Firefighters led by District Fire Officer Shivamogga Ashok Kumar carried out the operation for three and a half hours.

The extent of the damage has yet to be calculated.
