A fire broke out at a private commercial complex in Kumarapuram on Tuesday due to a suspected short circuit from a generator, triggering panic among people nearby. The fire broke out on the third floor of the Xavier Street Food Café in the evening. Firemen rushed to the spot from Chakkai fire station, doused the fire and brought the situation under control. Officials also confirmed that there was no damage to the building beyond the approximately 200 square feet on the third floor where the fire started.
