Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday said that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared for the revival of the prestigious HMT plant.
Speaking to presspersons in Mandya, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, efforts are underway to rejuvenate both HMT and Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Plant (VISL) at Bhadravati. Several rounds of negotiations have already taken place in this regard, he added.
VK Saraswat, member of NITI Aayog, presented an important report on the revival of HMT, Mr. Kumaraswamy said. High-level meetings were held in New Delhi with senior officials of the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), the Director General of HMT and Mr. Saraswat, the Minister informed.
Mr. Kumaraswamy also said that a team led by Additional Secretary MHI and Executive Director HMT has also been sent to Japan to explore possibilities of technical cooperation.
The Minister said that the people of Mandy have been aspiring for industrial enterprises in the district for a long time. “I have sought cooperation with the state government and have also held discussions with several industrialists in Delhi to set up industries in Mandya,” he said.
With the responsibilities of two key portfolios, all efforts are being made to promote industrial growth in Karnataka, Mr. Kumaraswamy said.
“The state government should build strong working relations with the Centre. Only then can the state fully benefit from central initiatives. It is unnecessary to involve politics in every matter,” says Kumaraswamy.
