A dead man rises? A Ghanaian shaman lifted the curse on England’s Harry Kane

England and their supporters can finally breathe a sigh of relief after Ghanaian spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam said he has lifted the “curse” he allegedly placed on Harry Kane ahead of their World Cup Group L clash against Ghana.

The unusual storyline then gained traction Kane missed a late chance in England’s goalless draw against Ghana in Boston, a moment that was quickly linked by some fans to Bonsam’s earlier claims. The self-proclaimed shaman reportedly suggested placing a curse on the England captain to prevent him from scoring in the match.

The missed opportunity sparked widespread discussion online, with Ghana supporters even celebrating the moment as they linked Bonsam’s alleged influence on the outcome of the match. The striker’s frustration in front of goal only added fuel to the viral narrative surrounding the spiritualist’s comments.

Nana Kwaku Bonsam, who has previously made controversial claims in world football – including allegedly being responsible for an injury suffered by Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of the 2014 World Cup – later addressed the situation in an interview with LBC.

“Yes, yes, I picked it up yesterday,” Bonsam said when asked if he had removed the so-called curse after the draw. “Harry Kane is not my enemy. I have a child that I will soon name after Harry Kane because I have loved Harry Kane for a long time.”

His comments added another layer of intrigue to an already bizarre episode as the spiritualist appeared to go from rivalry to admiration for the England striker.

HARRY KANE SCORES A FREE AGAINST PANAMA?

During the same interaction, Bonsam was also jokingly asked if he could extend similar “powers” to influence other top teams such as Spain, France or Argentina. With a laugh, he dismissed the suggestion, making it clear he had no intention of targeting other parties.

However, he assured fans that Kane will no longer be affected by such claims and will be free to perform without restrictions.

“I know for sure that Harry Kane will play and perform very, very well in this game,” he added confidently.

The England captain, one of world football’s most prolific strikers, will now look to overcome distractions and focus on the rest of the tournament. Despite the chatter off the pitch, England remain upbeat about their campaign as they prepare for the challenge of Panama ahead of them in Group L.

While the story surrounding Bonsam and Kane has caught the eye for its unusual nature, the England camp will be more concerned with turning chances into goals on the pitch than the narrative off it.

They face Panama on June 28 with three teams, including England, still in the hunt for two qualification spots.
