A contract worker was electrocuted while working on a Bescom pole in Devanahalli

A 39-year-old contract laborer died of electrocution while working on a Bescom electricity pole near Sulibele Road in Devanahalli on Wednesday evening.

The deceased was identified as Palayya. He worked as a contract employee with a Bescom contractor, Ravish/Margadarulu Gangadhar.

According to the complaint, the incident took place near TT Bande Road and Marishammapalya Light area around 5 pm on Wednesday. Palayya had climbed an electric pole to carry out work when he came in contact with a live power line and suffered an electric shock. He died on the spot.

The complaint alleges possible failure to comply with the following mandatory electrical safety procedures, including line release/shutdown (LC), supervision, and the provision and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

The complainant pressed for a comprehensive investigation into the roles and possible negligence of the concerned Bescom officials, the foreman and the contractor in charge of the work.

A case has been registered at the Devanahalli police station under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and police are investigating the circumstances that led to the electrocution. The investigation is also expected to examine relevant Bescom records, including line shutdown/release documents, work orders and safety compliance records.
