The Network of Breastfeeding India (BPNI), an organization that works on the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding, filed a complaint with the Union’s government against Amulu for alleged promotion of the newly launched infant formula with liquid, which is listed on their website. Bpni claims that the milk giant broke the substitutes of infant milk, 1992.
Dr. ARUN GUPTA, MD, FIAP (PED), BPNO coordinator, took X to indicate it, and states: “Bpni submits a formal complaint to the authorities concerned for the health protection of children @mohfw_india @fssaiindia @nccr_ @ministrywcd. to comply with the law? ”
What does the complaint say?
In complaints about the Ministry of Health, the Ministry for the Development of Women and Children, FSSAI, NCPCR, for faster action and compliance, BPNI said: “Support for infant @amul_coop, as reported, is in direct contradiction with section 9 of the IMS, 1992, which prohibits all forms of advertising in the advertising square.”
Quoted Section 2 (a). (G) of the IMS Act, which defines the “substitute for infant milk” as any food placed on the market or represented as a replacement for breast milk for infants up to two years of age; Section 2 (a). (I), which defines promotion as an encouragement of any person to buy or use an infant milk substitute; and Section 6, which prohibits the use of graphics or phrases that increases the prolongability of infant milk substitutes.
He also claims that Amul has issued a press release on the “first Indian liquid ready to feed infant recipe”, which promoted it as “ideal for carrying” and “good for working mothers”. Bpni claims it is a promotional nature. The amul allegedly used the image of the teddy bear in his product label, which BPNI says is not a neutral symbol and is used for emotionally alerts and an increase in selling, which violates section 6 (2) of the Act.
BPNI requires “thorough investigation”
Bpni called for a “thorough investigation” of alleged violation and “recognizable crimes”, asked BPNI to stop all promotional activities related to infant milk substitutes, download the teddy bear graphics from the Ethics before publish
The amulus replies
Amul responded to BBNI claims and said the company “remains determined to all bpni instructions”.
