A colorful welcome marks the new academic year in schools across Ernakulam

Songs, gifts, sweets and flowers celebrated the first day of the new academic year as hundreds of children across Ernakulam district were given colorful receptions on Monday.
The campuses were in a festive mood as both teaching and non-teaching staff welcomed the children as part of the ‘Praveshanolsavam’, a joyous welcome offered at the beginning of the new academic year. The children were given caps made of paper graph decorated with pictures of fruits and letters. Although some of them burst into tears, the teachers comforted and reassured them.
Inaugurating the district level ‘Paveshanolsavam’ at Government High School, Pezhaykkappilli, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Anoop Jacob said that all schools need to get basic infrastructure, irrespective of the total number of children in each institution. “By providing basic facilities, we will pave the way for more children to be enrolled in schools,” he said.
He added that the modernization of primary schools in the district will be ensured by using the help available from various sources, including corporate social responsibility programs. “The United Democratic Front government is determined to bring about creative changes in line with the demands of modern times in the state’s education sector,” he said.
The minister distributed name tags with messages about cleanliness to the students. Students who won academic laurels were felicitated on the occasion. Mathew Kuzhalnadan, MLA presided. Ernakulam district panchayat president KG Radhakrishnan delivered the keynote address.
VE Abdul Ghafoor, Fisheries Minister, inaugurated the District Level ‘Praveshanolsavam’ of BUDS Schools under Ernakulam Kudumbashree District Mission at BUDS Special School for Mentally Handicapped, Eloor. Laiji Sajeevan, chairman of Eloor village, presided.
