A building under construction collapsed near the town of Ambala; 10 injured, other workers feared imprisonment

A building under construction collapsed in a village near Ambala city on Sunday (27 September 2026) while a concrete slab (overlay) of the roof was being cast, injuring at least 10, officials said.

The incident took place in Dhulkot village where several laborers were working at the site.

One of the injured workers claimed that about 10 workers were working at ground level while 15 were engaged in casting above.

The incident caused panic in the area, prompting locals to start rescue operations before calling the police and emergency services. Police and senior administrative officials immediately reached the spot with rescue equipment and started clearing the debris.

The official said the debris is being cleared on a war footing using heavy earthmoving machines and other machinery.

Police said 10 injured workers have been admitted to the Ambala Civil Hospital, while other workers are feared to be imprisoned.

The official said they were searching for anyone trapped under the debris and providing immediate medical attention to the injured.

Police said that an investigation into the cause of the accident will begin after rescue operations are completed.
