A BTech student was held for morphing classmates’ photos

Police on Saturday arrested a 22-year-old BTech student who was in charge of morphing photos of his female classmates and saving the images on his mobile phone and laptop. The accused, identified as Changanassery native Ajmal T. Muhammed, is a fourth-year student of a private college in Ettumanur.

According to the police, Ajmal often took pictures of his classmates using his latest model smartphone, which made him a popular choice among friends for photography. Students told investigators he also photographed students from other colleges during camps and other events.

The matter came to light recently when some of his friends accessed his laptop while working on a college magazine and came across morphed images of female students. They alerted the college authorities and the police, after which Ajmal was taken into custody.

Released on bail

Police said the morphed images found on his devices contained photos of students in his class. An examination of his mobile phone and laptop has so far found no evidence that the images were uploaded to any website or shared with others through groups or other platforms. The police have registered a case against Ajmal under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act and the Information Technology Act. The investigation, including a forensic examination of the cyber cell, is ongoing. Ajmal was later arrested and released on bail.
