Pachakkanam, a remote polling station in the Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR), is probably one of the lowest polling stations in the state.
A polling booth is set up in the Anganwadi building here. Pachakkanam is part of the newly formed Mullaperiyar Kumily grama panchayat ward. According to the new voter list, the total number of voters in the polling station is 29, Kumily grama panchayat secretary R. Ashok said. “There are 16 voters and 13 women in the booth. We will provide all facilities for smooth voting in the booth,” he said.
According to officials, Pachakkanam has been witnessing a steady decline in voter turnout since 2016. The number of voters in the previous council elections in 2016 was 39.
