A special POCSO court in Kadapa on Wednesday sentenced a 75-year-old man to three years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Annamayya district.
A POCSO case was registered at Rayachoti Urban Police Station on the complaint of the victim’s mother on August 10, 2023. The accused Shaik Haroon Basha, a resident of Rayachoti, was arrested and a thorough investigation was conducted thereafter.
The court found the prosecution’s evidence sufficient to prove the crime and handed down the sentence on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Dheeraj Kunubilli praised the investigating officers and the prosecution team for handling the case effectively. He reiterated that crimes against women and children would be dealt with strictly.
