Visibly enthusiastic Sunil Gavascar jumped to the celebration inside the comments when India sealed the exciting six-seater victory over England in the oval, drew Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2 and ended one of the most launched test series in recent memory.
Former Captain India was in the commentary when Mohammed Siraj took the last goal and released Gus Atkinson to seal the victory in the ovals. A moment later, Gavascar proudly pointed to the white jacket he was wearing – the same he wore during the famous Indian victory in Gabba in 2021.
“Happy jacket!” He shouted and shone with joy. Since then, the clip has been widely shared on social media and captures the moment of pure emotions from one of the most respected voices of the Indian cricket.
England vs. India, 5th test day 5 emphasizing
Gavascar told Shaubman Gill after the game 3. The day he would bring a jacket with a series on the line. “Tomorrow, I will wear my happy jacket I wore in Australia, a white jacket for Gabba test. I have it just for that. All the best, God bless you,” he said with a smile.
When the rain pushed the last day to Monday, Gavascar wore the jacket again. And when Siraj led India to one of their greatest overseas victories, the jacket legend grew stronger.
“I kept this happy jacket on this tour only for the referee series,” Gavascar said later during the show after the match.
The victory itself was the narrowest runs in Indian test history – only six runs separating two teams at the end. England, which needed 35 other runs with four goals in hand, looked popular at the beginning of the game. But Siraj had other plans.
Siraj, who charged with intensity from the first ball, hit twice at opening and continued to exert pressure in his charm. He ended up with the characters of the 9 for 149 matches and was appointed a match player – a well -deserved recognition for his tireless efforts in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the management of the workload.
Prasidh Krishna offered solid support from the other end, and the duo closed together what would go down when one of the best Indian tests wins from home.
When the players were admitted to the pitch, Gavaskara’s silent celebration in the commentary – heading towards a jacket worn with faith and touched superstition – added a personal, almost poetic remark to which Indian fans of cricket soon would not forget.
