CTUS-SKM, a common platform of 10 central departments and Samyut Kisan Morcha, announced a nationwide protest 13. August 2025 against the tariff threats of US President Donald Trump and a comprehensive agreement on economic trade in India (CETA).
The statement published on Monday called on workers, farmers, students and patriotic citizens to show their disagreement by participating in various mass events, including the collection of tractors and motorcycle, protest demonstrations, public assemblies and other forms of protest on various platforms and partner organizations.
American tariff threatens oil trade with Russia
According to the statement of the cited PTU CTUS-SKM, Trump has strongly condemned the recent Trump threat to impose 25 % of the tariffs to India, along with a repressive tax on oil with Russia.
They characterized these measures as “an obvious act of economic forced to dictate India, including its business relations with Russia.”
Organizations emphasize what they perceive as hypocrisy in American trade policies that require open markets for US corporations, while with a weapon of bullying nations, the report says.
East India colonized India through trade; Today, CETA and the US business agreements are new tools of corporate imperialism.
The requirements set by the protesters
In addition to specific concerns, the protesting group demanded several requirements concerning India’s business policy:
CTUS-SKM criticized the government for agreement. “Equally alarming is subordinate to the humble submission of the Indian government, which reflects its growing subordination to Western imperialist interests,” said the trade unions.
They also noted that this surrender is also evident in the recently signed India-Kua, which is an agreement that sacrifices the interests of Indian farmers, workers and economic independence from the altar of foreign business profits.
Instead of rejecting this intimidation firmly, the central government responded with silence and signaled its willingness to endanger the strategic autonomy of India in favor of the US.
The groups warned that this surrender could prepare a way for an even more exploited trade agreement in India and the US, potentially providing American farms such as Cargill unlimited access to the Indian dairy sectors and agriculture, led to price collapse, strengthening the agricultural community and increasing the nation’s food security.
