Srinagar police, in coordination with the revenue department, demolished a structure belonging to drug peddler Sheikh Tasaduq at Mumkhan Mohalla in Rainawari, a police spokesman said.

The accused is involved in several NDPS cases registered in Awantipora and Budgam, the spokesperson said.

He said Tasaduq’s husband, Sheikh Maroofa, is also involved in the NDPS case registered in Pulwama.

A comprehensive investigation and examination of the property owned and held by the accused revealed that the three-storey concrete structure was raised on encroaching state land and was allegedly built with the proceeds of the illicit drug trade, the spokesman said.

The action also resulted in the recovery of valuable government land worth crores of rupees from illegal occupation, he added.

The investigation also found that the property was ill-gotten wealth and represented financial gains from illegal narcotics activity, in addition to trespassing on state land, the spokesman said.

After completing all the necessary legal formalities and in accordance with the proper legal procedure, the building was demolished in the presence of the financial authorities, he added.
