The scholars and the hanger started a debate for demand for religion status for Lingayat during the release of Vishwar Samska Mahayan Volume-3, the books of former Chief Minister Veerappy Moily on Sunday in Bagakot.
The director of the MM Research Center Kalaburagi, Dharwad, Veeranna Rajur said that Mr. Moily did not understand the character of Lingayat and was mistaken that he was the same as Veerashaiva.
“In the book Mr. Moily mentions these two as the only identity. I think they are wrong. Lingayat is a unique religion based on India. It is different from Verarashaiva, which practice some groups of people. It is not right to think they are one,” said prof. Rajur.
Sarjoo writer Katkar also said that Mr. Moily is the impression that these two currents are the same while they are really different.
Sri Fakir Dingaleshwar Swami from the Balehosur in the Gadag district protested against this claim that Mr. Moily only repeated what MM Kalburga suggested in Vachana Sampta, one of his books.
He asked who said these two were different? Who decided to do it? “It’s just an idea in the minds of a few,” he said.
He said he strongly opposed the idea of another religion when some groups started agitation during the last term of Siddaramaiah as the main minister. “I am not against the Lingayats who are trying to gain government benefits. But I do not accept anyone trying to fit history,” Věr said.
Rajur said that the first volume of Vachan Samput was carried decades ago when this issue was not very ideological clarity and several things were mixed.
“But now we are bringing the fifth volume that has essays and remarks that Lingayat’s clarification is a clear religion,” he said.
The thing said he had argued in the past with his friend Mahadevim and that she accepted that she lacked ideological clarity. “We were facing each other in a television interview. She accepted in front of me, that she wrote in the book that both Lingayat and Verarashaiva were the same. But she later changed her argument. She said it was because she gained clarity. I asked how she could be sure but didn’t answer.”
“I told her that even now he has no clarity and has come out of the television studio. Such arguments of fortune tellers or scholars are not acceptable,” said Věš.
In his answer, Mr. Moily said that in his works he favored global cultures that unify the mind and not contradictory thoughts, such as the problem of separation Veerashaiva-Longayat.
The former Ministers of SR Patil and HM Revanna, CEO of Sapna Book House Nitin Shah, KM Nagaraj and others were present.
The event was organized in Kala Bhavan in Bagalkot by a group of SR Patil and Sapna Book House.
