On Monday, the United Kingdom is preparing for the arrival of Storm Floris, while the Office of Met warns of dangerous weather conditions in northern England and Scotland. Wind speed could reach up to 85 mph, and trigger yellow and amber warning for large parts of the country.
Amber warning for northern Scotland
For the northern Scottish mainland, an amber warning was issued, where the gusts of 60-70 mph are likely and the uncovered coastal areas could see the winds as thick as 85 mph. The office of Met warned that such extreme weather could be a “danger to life” due to flying debris and large waves hitting the coast.
Yellow alerts for wider areas
Wider yellow warning for the wind blankets of northern Ireland, northern Wales, northern England and parts of Scotland. It will remain in force on Monday from 6:00 to midnight, and the inland areas are expected to experience between 40 and 50 mph.
The expected heavy rainfall
Storm Floris is assumed to bring intense precipitation, especially through Highlands, Lake District, northern England and northern Wales. In some areas, rainfall of 16-32 mm per hour is possible, which increases the risk of flooding and impaired travel.
Probably widespread travel and disturbance of energy
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert said the storm would seriously affect traffic. Roads, railway lines, air transport and ferry services can be disturbed, with the potential for closing bridges and power outages due to damaged infrastructure. Flying tiles and beach material could also hit coastal roads and properties.
Conditions to alleviate Tuesday
Although strong winds persist until Tuesday in the eastern parts of the UK, the conditions are expected to improve in the west to the end of Monday.
The Metal Office urged the public to take preventive measures, especially in areas under Amber warning.
