Despite the order of the High Court in Calcutta, on the renewal of MGNGA in West Bengalia since 1 August, there was no renewal of 100 days of work, Paschim Banga Khet Maor Samity, Agricultural Staff Union) said on Friday (August 1, 2025).
Hearing the PBKMS petition Division Bench of the High Court in Calcutta, headed by TS Sivagnanam 18. June ordered the system of system from 1 August
“Yet, even after this milestone victory for rural workers, central and state governments decided to stand on the order of court. Instead of preparing for work, blocked offices in several districts even refuse to accept job applications.
The Union also added that employment applications from people made within MGNGA were rejected. “In just four days, 2,092 job applications were presented between 28 and 31.
The representative of the PBKMS said that when they contacted Commissioner NREGA, he clearly stated that no work would start if the central government does not issue new instructions – a position that clearly undermines the power of the High Court in Kalcato.
The Union, which claimed the deliberate inaction of both governments, said that the central government is equally wine and hides behind Section 27 of the MGNGA Act: “It continues to block the release of funds and work and systematically prepare Bengal workers on their legal right to employment”.
The Association also claimed that in the Krishnagar-II district in the district of Nadia, when the Union member accompanied the workers to submit job applications, BDO and several Panchayat Pradhans responded by abuse and threats, called him “Bangladesh” and threatened him with arrests and punishments.
PBKMS demanded the immediate implementation of MGNGA’s work in West Bengal, according to the High Court’s order, that this obvious “non -compliance with the Supreme Court’s order is illegal, unfair and unacceptable and continues to work for the right to work in every village and every district.”
Before surveys by Lok Sabha in 2024, the Trinamool Congress organized the Protests in Delhi and demanded wage payment and work restoration. However, the reaction of the ruling party of the West Bengal at the command of the Supreme Court was lukewarm. The main Minister of West Bengal Mamata Baerjee said that her government had founded Karmashree Prakalpa to provide at least 50 days of wages to each job card holder in the financial year. However, the scheme is not visible at the level of grass roots. Work under Mgnreg has stopped in the state since December 2021, resulting in expanded rural anxiety and migration.
