US President Donald Trump said on Friday that India would “no longer buy oil from Russia after his announcement of the expected” punishment “as a result of a Russian brutal purchase of a new Delhi.
Trump seemed to be confirmed by a “good step”, and after being asked, it seemed that he had all the options open, whether he had a number in terms of punishment.
“I understand that India will no longer buy oil from Russia. That’s what I heard, I don’t know if it’s right or not. That’s a good step. We’ll see what happens,” he quoted him.
Trump’s statement comes after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday that Indian energy purchases are in line with market dynamics and national interests and add that the government is unaware of any specific development on Indian oil companies that stop Russian imports.
On Thursday, Donald Trump ordered an import rate to India along with unspecified sanctions for Russian oil purchase. He later indicated that high tariffs were the results that India was a member of Bric and her relationship with Russia.
Mea reaction to Trump tariffs
During the weekly press briefing on Friday, a spokesman for Mea Randhir Jaiswal said that India said a clear answer to the purchase of Russian oil after asked about some Indian companies that stopped purchases.
“You are aware of our wide approach to the energy source requirements that we will look at what is available on the market and the prevailing global situation. We do not involve any specifics,” he said.
