
In the last two and a half years, more than 95 lakhs have visited the Kodag hilly district.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Tourism at the recent meeting of the Committee on Tourism Development in the Kodag district, the district recorded in 2023 and 45.72 Lakh in 2024 43.69 Lakh tourists.
Anita Baskar, Deputy Director of Tourism, Madikeri, said that Kodag was 23 out of 778 tourist destinations identified as part of the tourism policy in the 2020-26, tourism director.
Codag tourist destinations included Raja Seat, Madikeri Fort to Falls, Mandalpatti, Harnggi Reserve, Maling Reserve, Madimate Falls, Irruppu Falls, Irruppu Falls, Dabare, General Thimayya Museum and Nagarhole National Park.
A request to move the temples of Talacauvery-Bhagamandala from the list of tourist places to the list of spiritual destinations has been submitted, the official said.
A total of 2,300 houses in the Kodag district were registered and certified. In addition to 150 hotels and resorts in operation in the district, of which 53 are officially registered on the portal of the Ministry of Tourism.
Mandalpatti
The scenic peaks of Mandalpatti were selected for development through the public and private sector partnerships (PPP) within the One District One target system.
Galibeedu gram Panchayat approved the development of Mandalpatti infrastructure with 50 lakh assignment. However, as Mandalpathti falls under the Forest Department, the Ministry of the Ministry for Roads and other related works was sought, the official said.
Referring to the announcement of the Chief Minister Siddaramaiaha on the development of water sports and adventure tourism in his budget speech of 2024-25, the official said that Harangi reservoir will be open for such activities in Jungle Lodges and Resorts (JLR), while rafting licenses were for Dubare in Kushalagar and Barpuhola.
Mrs. Baskar said that the Ministry of Tourism was looking for approval from the Lake Development Office to make offers for rafting, kayak, canoeing, wind surfing, jet skiing and water in Honnamana Kere, tourist destination in Somwarpet Taluk in the Kodag district.
Mini train
Meanwhile, the representative of the Commissioner of Kodag Venkat Raja, who chaired the meeting, said that after receiving the report from the engineers of the southwestern railways, steps would be taken to start a children’s mini train on Raja.
He said that the railway engineers had already inspected the place and gathered details about the proposal to start a mini train for children.
