Fired Oracle engineer gets job in 45 days; shares plan to beat market slump — “Soak up knowledge like a sponge” | Today’s news
A techie who lost his job in Oracle’s recent 30,000-job layoff has gone from a pink slip to multiple new job openings in just 45 days.
A former Oracle software engineer shared their blueprint for viral success on social media, revealing how they mastered AI engineering from scratch, mastered 15 everyday applications and “soaked in knowledge like a sponge” to successfully beat the job market slump.

Here is what the technician did:
In a viral post on Reddit, the engineer said that Oracle was released along with 30,000 others on March 31, but “didn’t think much of it.” — “I was like, ‘Great, now I have to lock up.'”
After landing three jobs within 45 days of being laid off, this technician shared a step-by-step plan for what other layoff victims should do to “get out of this ‘between jobs’ phase:
The technician suggested, “3-4 hours of DSA every day – mostly Neetcode.”
He said he learned the basics of AI engineering from scratch, including transformers and attention, with Claude – “I asked (it) to create a 30-day plan and he completed the plan accordingly.”
“1-2 hours every day for about a month and then I had 2 projects I wanted to showcase,” the viral post read.
He also noted that the “System Design from Hello Interview” helped him in his learning. “I spent 2 hours on it every day. And also articles from ByteByteGo and Substack.”

Another important trick, the technician said, was to “update Naukri daily – give as an instant joiner”.
“Apply to at least 10-15 positions a day. It doesn’t matter where: career sites, Workday, LinkedIn, Wellfound, Naukri, Indeed, etc. I’ve found the best career sites to apply to and Naukri to connect,” he said.
The techie said he’s been approached by about 20 recruiters through LinkedIn alone. “This is where LinkedIn Premium helps. Some called and scheduled interviews.”
“I was curious to learn every day. I soaked up knowledge like a sponge,” said the former Oracle software engineer.
The technician said he started giving interviews from early May to mid May. “Interviewed with 7 companies. I failed some and ended up with 3 offers. Joining soon as an AI engineer,” he said.

How did netizens react?
Social media users congratulated the technician on his tenacity and sought advice on interviewing the ace.
“The reason you got the job so easily was 30 percent of your hard work in the past months and 70 percent of your experience with Oracle,” the user said.
“Congo!” another user said. “Please share how you did your preparation for AI engineering, it will be helpful for us. If possible, also share your overall preparation strategy, like what else did you do besides Neetcode, like system design, any domain specific stuff.”
However, a netizen noted that the engineer is “from a top NIT and has Oracle in his CV” and said “the market is still bad for normal level 3 people”.
“Btw no hate and congratulations, it’s just that a lot of people like me who are laid off for much longer, say more than 6 months, get demotivated and question themselves. The main problem is that because of the lack of jobs, companies these days prefer top tier candidates. Our resumes don’t even get shortlisted,” the netizen added.
