Pep Guardiola confirmed that he is about to retreat from football management as soon as his time in Manchester City ends – and indicated that his Sabatical could take up to 15 years. The 54 -year -old Spaniard, who expanded his contract with City last year to stay in the club until 2027, opened in an interview with GQ Spain about his future and said that “more than decided” on a long break to focus on himself.
“I know I will stop after this stage with the city – that’s certain. It is decided, more than it has decided,” Guardiola said. “I don’t know how long I will stop – a year, two, three, five, ten, fifteen – I don’t know. But after this magic I leave with the city because I have to stop and focus on myself, my body.”
Manchester City manager, widely considered one of the greatest coaches of his generation, enjoyed the historical charm at the Etihad Stadium. Since its connection in 2016, the club has led 18 main trophies, including six Premier League titles, the Champions League and global success at the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
However, the 2024-25 season under the guidance of the Guardiola meant a rare low point. The city ended the campaign without the main trophy for the first time in eight years – it finished third in the Premier League, did not reach the Champions League and lost the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace.
