Visiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Brahadisvar Ttempple in Gandgaikonda Cholapuram near Jayankondam, a UNESCO World Heritage Memorial Maintained by the Indian Arch, Archaeological Society, is to strengthen tourism.
Since the temple was declared a world heritage in 2004, the number of visitors was on the rise. Foreign tourists show more interest in understanding the grandeur and perfection of the architecture and the statue of the chol, which it protects. The large fresh green lawns in the temple area are teeming with children, especially on weekends.
According to the sources of tourism sectors, the Cholapuram gangaikond has appeared as one of the best searched items online since the announcement was made when visiting Prime Minister in Brahadisvar about two weeks ago. In addition to many channels on YouTube in Tamil, Hindi, English and others, the event was broadcast live on many intelligence channels throughout the country, gaining great interest among people to know Rajendra Chola and the temple built by him.
Tourism officials say that the temple in Tamil ranks among the three best places of archaeological significance. The other two are the Brahadisvar Temple in Thanjavur and the Airavatesvara temple in Darasurama. This is of the opinion that the tourist blow to the Cholapuram gangaikond will surely witness the sharp increase in the immediate future due to the immense popularity gained after Mr. Modi’s visit.
On average, 9,000 to 10,000 tourists are visited by the Cholapuram gangaicond per month.
