American Foreign Minister Marco Rubio has speculated that he is preparing to question Vice President JD Vance in the Presidential race 2028 – at least for now. Rubio spoke to Fox News and appreciated Vance and expressed hope that his “close friend” was running for the president.
“Well, I think JD Vance would be a great nominated. If she decides he wants to do it.
Does not rule out running but focused on the current role
While Rubio did not fully close the door of 2028, he stressed that his attention remains on his current duties as the best American diplomat.
“It’s a bit early, you know, but when I’m in the role I am here with the Foreign Minister, I don’t really play in politics,” he said.
“I want to do this job until the president allows me to do it and stay in this job that would keep me here until January 2028.”
He added that his political involvement exists official restrictions:
“In fact, there are rules against me to engage in domestic policy.”
More roles in Trump Administration
Since Rubio was appointed Foreign Minister under President Trump, he has accepted several demanding tasks, including supervision of the US International Development Agency (USAid).
2028 race: wide open field
Elections 2028 are likely to be labeled for the first time since 2016 that both major parties will not have a reigning or previous candidate of the leader. The Republicans are expected to face the transition, and Donald Trump is likely to be a standard party bearer.
Rubi’s comments may be an early signal that they will be placed as a supporter-or potential running friend-for-ticket led by Vance.
Looking back for 2016: From ‘Little Marco’ to Team Trump
Rubio was also thinking about his rivalry in 2016 with the then candidate Donald Trump, who was greatly dubbed by “Little Marco” during the Bruising Republican Primary.
“I knew who it was, of course, but I never met him,” Rubio said.
“We happened to compete for the same thing. So in any competition … The strikes will be thrown. But then it ends and then we are in the same team because he is a Republican candidate and I am a Republican.”
