BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai said that there is an effort to obtain the required permission for the Mahadayi project from the National Wild Animals Council after meeting the Minister of the Union for the Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
He addressed members of Malaprabha-Mahadayi Kalasa Banduri Raita Horata Okkuta in Navalgund in the Dharwad district after visiting his protest and received a memorandum from them on Sunday.
Mr. Bommai described the statement of the Chief Minister Goa on the assurance of the Minister of the Union that he did not allow the Mahadayi project to be incorrect and that he would strongly condemn him. He added that all the required efforts to protect the interests of Karnataka would be made.
The former main minister said that when he was Minister of Water Resources, 300 GBP Crore was assigned to the project and the channel project was started.
Then the channel was built. The work that remains now is to connect the channel Kalasa with the Banduri stream, for which the government must take steps, he said.
He stressed that the BJP always seeks to facilitate the project, and he was during the BJP’s possession that the center had published the Gazette notification. A detailed report of the project was approved and even an environmental review was awarded.
“But now GoA uses wild animals as an excuse. Protection of wild animals of our state is our duty and Goa has no power to interfere. I informed the Minister of the Union and promised to meet him this week. To learn, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said, “he said,” he said.
The former Minister Shankar Pedil Munenakoppa and several farmers’ leaders were also present.
