The recent ceasefire announced by the Kurdish militant group PKK in its decade armed against the Turkish state is a victory for people from Turkey, who will be reflected in peace to the West Asian region and the world, said the leading pro-Kurdish leader who played a decisive role that facilitates the agreement between PKK.
In a written interview with the Hindu, Tuncer Bakirhan, co -chairman of the People’s Equality and Democratic Party (Democratic Party), she said India has “greater responsibility” to support peace agreement because “Kurdish geography”, which includes parts of Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria, has close civilian ties with current India.
“There are no losers in peace. If the nations of turkey, the nations of Western Asia and the world win. In this context, it is also important to remember the historical and cultural ties between Kurds and Indian people. Both nations share common roots that are thousands in language. It replaces the inheritance of the Sykes-Picot Treaty of 1916, which allowed the United Kingdom and France to divide the former Ottoman regions into two independent influence from other powers such as Italy and Czarristic Russia.
Bakirhan said that “commercial and cultural exchanges” throughout history created continuity between “Kurdish geography and India”.
“We believe that this historical and cultural proximity entrusts India even greater responsibility. The support we hope is from India is not only a diplomatic approach, but also a natural solidarity resulting from the deep historical ties between the two fraternal nations,” Bakirhan said.
The last peace process began in October 2024 after the Devlet Bahçeli, chairman of the nationalist party of the movement (MHP), issued a call to Peace, supported by the imprisoned leader PKK Abdullah Öcalan, who called on PKK and defamation on February 27, 2025.

Mr. Bakirhan’s Dem side plays a delegation role in this peace process between the Turkish State and Mr. Öcalan. The latest ceasefire, however, is far from perfect, because Mr. Bakirhan confirmed that sporadic clashes continue in different parts of the Kurdish region and urge that “attacks and clashes must end immediately.
He claimed that there was a “huge intellectual capital” in Turkey to support the peace process, because the violent struggle between PKK and Turkish armed forces costs about $ 2 trillion.
