The Council for Control of Pollution in Keral (PCB) will organize a public hearing in Thiruvananthapuram on 26 August in connection with the process to obtain an environmental permit for the development of the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. People can increase their views and concerns about the project during public hearing, a platform for the local community to express their views and objections if they exist in terms of the potential impact of the environmental impact of the project.
The aim of the 8,707 Crore Crore 8 707 GBP project is to carry out an international airport by expanding to existing international and home terminals and air facilities at the airport. Working on the project could begin as soon as the necessary authorizations, including environmental check -in, were adopted after a public hearing.
According to airport sources, an existing international terminal will be developed, which currently manipulates around 4 million passengers annually (MPPA) to handle almost 12 MPPA, with a multi -level terminal integrated curb. The new terminal will also have a lot of facilities, including forecasts with airport square, hotel and commercial and administrative block – all under a single roof. There will be more space for car parking for the ease of visitors and passengers.
A similarly crowded home terminal, where the use of capacity last year was about 200%, with the terminal treated around 26 passengers of Lakh against the capacity of 13 lakhs, will develop almost 3 MPPA. Work on both terminals would be carried out in phases. The domestic terminal would be moved to the newly built international terminal as part of a temporary arrangement to make it easier to work on the domestic terminal. The project will also be the main expansion of the airport.
Thiruvananthapuram’s terminal capacity is 45 lake passengers per year, while the total number of passengers at the airport in the past was 48.90 Lakh, a 10% increase compared to 44.11 MAKH travelers in the previous year. It is expected that the expansion of the project will bring multiple facilities along with the strengthening of the airport capacity to manage more passengers and aircraft, the airport officials said.
