Security forces on Saturday (July 26, 2025) confiscated at least 90 firearms and more than 700 ammunition and explosives in several operations in five districts of manipure, the police said.
The leading police officer said that several seized firearms were reportedly excluded from police armory after a state of ethnic conflict in the state in the state in May 2023.
These were coordinated operations, which were released at the same time in several places on Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishhnupur, the police statement said.
During the operations of the joint teams, including the Police of Manipur, the Central Reserve police forces, the Border Security Force, Army and Assam Rifles, 90 weapons, including the three AK series, one M16 rifle, five insers, one LMG, four SLRs, 20 pistols, four carabiners, seven 0.303 rifles.
“A total of 728 ammunition and explosives were confiscated, of which 21 grenades and six IEDs, except for 21 magazines and 24 wireless phones,” he said.
During the press briefing at the State Police headquarters, the General Police Inspector, Zone II, Kabib K., said, “Some of the seized firearms were reportedly looted from our police armsmen.” Miscreants plundered over 6,000 firearms from various police armies after they broke out in the state of 3 May 2023 in the state of ethnic violence. More than 3,000 looted firearms were obtained, including more than 1,500 after the presidential rule was imposed in February this year.
The police reaffirmed their obligation to promote peaceful and safe manipures, and also called on the public to cooperate with coercive agencies and security forces and immediately report any suspicious activity or provide information on illegal firearms to the nearest police station or central control room.
The police officers remain closely coordinated with all parties involved to ensure that such operations continue in a permanent and focused way to restore normalness, maintain public order and protect the lives and property of all citizens.
More than 260 people were killed and thousands of May 2023 were in manipuro in ethnic violence in ethnic violence between Imphal Valley and adjacent hoods based on hills.
The manipur has been under the government of the President since 13 February of this year after the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned to his place and the assembly was subjected to an animated suspension.
