The Ministry of Development of the Union Rural Development, while answering the question of waiting fees to state states according to the National Employment Guarantee Guarantee Gandhi (MGNGS), jumped any reference to the West Bengal. The scheme, which provides 100 days of employment wages to rural households, has remained suspended since March 2022.
On Friday (July 25, 2025), in a written answer to the question asked by the MP Trinamool Congress Derek O’Brien for waiting fees in the states under three heads of wages, material and administration, the Ministry provided data for only 33 countries and trade union areas without any reference to West Bengal.
Sharing an answer in the post to X, the leader of the congress and the former Minister of Rural Development Jairam Ramesh said, “It’s extraordinary, unprecedented and unacceptable.”
In the order of 18th June, the High Court ordered the Union’s Calcutus to restore the system in the state. On Tuesday, to the next question asked by MP Minamool Mahua Moitr in Lok Sabha, what steps the government will take early compliance with the order, the ministry replied: “The Hon’ble High Court is studied at the Ministry to decide on another process.”
